TOP 10 TIPS FOR NEW SWIM TEAM FAMILIES

1.  Bring a “sharpie” type pen to the meet so your swimmer can write their event numbers on their hands.

2.  Mark your swimmers names (last and first initial) in all team clothing items so they don’t get mixed up with others at practice or meets.

3.  Always have a spare pair of goggles at meets for your swimmers.

4.  Sunscreen and bug spray are highly recommended at the swim meets for your swimmers and you!

5.  If you don’t want your swimmer to eat the concession food (for cost or health reasons), be sure to pack a lunch for them to take to the meet.

6.  Encourage your swimmer to “hang-out” with their teammates in the bullpen or team area to ensure that they don’t miss their event(s).

7.  Flashlights are nice to have at night meets to police the area where your swimmer was camped out.

8.  Save room for Portillo’s after the night meets.  It’s a great time for all to reflect upon the activities of the evening.

9.  Your swimmer will have lots of “down time” at the meets so they may want to bring cards, books, music, game boys, etc.  Be sure to label everything your swimmer brings.

10.  It is especially fun to decorate your automobiles before the AWAY meets to show your SHARKS spirit.  Vehicles often caravan to the meets from Beebe’s parking lot to the AWAY location.

What is your current career besides coaching Saybrook Sharks?

1. Restaurant Owner (Two Nancy's Pizzarias - one in Naperville and one in Bolingbrook).  Come visit us! It is the best pizza around.
2. Outside Sales Rep for Comcast.

How old were you when you started swimming?

I started swimming when I was 10 years old.

Did you swim in High School?

I did not swim in high school, there was no team, but I did swim at a Division 2 school in Minnesota.

What is your proudest moment in your swimming career?
My  proudest moment in swimming is right now coaching these kids and watching the team grow and come closer together each season.  I am proud of the parents commitment to this team and this sport.  I am proud of how hard the kids practice and how dedicated they are to get up so early and practice with such determination.  I am proud of the coaches we have now and those we have had in the past. Without them and their commitment to this team, the road to success would have been much longer.

Number of years you have coached the Saybrook Sharks:
I have coached the sharks for 8 seasons.

Where do you live?
I live in Yorkville.  Some day, Ruthy and I will start our own swim team in the area, and then my life will be complete. Oh, and we have to win the City meet, then it will be complete.
What is your current career besides coaching Saybrook Sharks?

Computer Teacher at Sts. Peter and Paul School for grades 1-5.  I have been there 9 years.

Did you swim in High School?

Yes, I swam all 4 years at Naperville North from the fall 1985- fall 1988

Did you swim in college?

1 season  (1991) for Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu (HPU)

Did you do any other sports in college?

Yes, I received  a full scholarship for Cheerleading at Hawaii Pacific University from 1991-1994.

Number of years you have coached the Saybrook Sharks:

I started to coach in the summer of 2001.  So this will be my 7th summer as a SHARK coach.  I absolutely love to coach with Coach Greg and all the other Saybrook Coaches.  I am looking forward to another exciting talented swim season with the Saybrook Sharks!  GO SHARKS!
